I am very pleased and amazed that we have managed to collect well over the required number of signatures to submit our candidacy file. The energy we experienced in the last 48 hours has been fantastic. Romanians have mobilized and demonstrated that we still have a chance. We must seize this opportunity that has presented itself,” George Simion remarked after submitting his candidacy.
He also expressed gratitude to POT President Anamaria Gavrilă for her excellent teamwork and collaboration.
„It’s not about me, but I want to share one thing: I will endeavor to improve myself and make every possible and impossible effort for our nation. I promise to see this through and not betray the Romanian people. Naturally, I expect to become a target for the system in the coming months. They will create false narratives about me; a lot of fiction will be written, and there will be fake recordings made using deepfake technology and artificial intelligence. However, we are not concerned with that. This is not about me. The collection of over 600,000 signatures since Sunday is not for my sake, and I am confident that my colleague Ana Maria has garnered an impressive number as well.
We have one goal: a return to democracy and normality.”
