According to him, the emissary is accompanied by another person, who lives in the US and has connections with Republican circles. Ciolacu avoided giving the names of the two, but stressed that their meetings aim to adapt to the working methods of the new Trump administration.
„The Trump administration, in addition to the ambassador, has special envoys. That’s how they work. I, the Prime Minister, have a person that I sent to the US. He has meetings at Mar-a-Lago. We are all trying to get out of the bubble that has worked so far. The Trump administration works differently. There are two possibilities: to criticize them or to adapt to the new practice,” the Prime Minister said in a discussion with journalists.
Marcel Ciolacu specified that the head of state, Ilie Bolojan, was informed of this initiative. According to the prime minister, the emissary is mainly concerned with discussions related to Visa Waiver.
„I sent someone to the US who lives there. He is the prime minister’s special envoy. Yesterday he landed, he called me at 5 am. There are two Romanians: one from the United States and one, the government envoy. Mr. Bolojan knows about him. The envoy is primarily concerned with Visa Waiver. He did not go on government money. I am on their money,” added the head of the executive.
